Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis through RPL if I already do complex diagnostic work?
Yes, your existing experience diagnosing complex vehicle faults can be formally assessed against the AUR40226 units by the partner RTO through RPL. You'll still need to provide solid evidence and go through the assessment process to demonstrate that skill level.
What evidence is needed for Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis RPL?
You'll need job cards or work orders showing complex fault diagnosis you've carried out, plus records of diagnostic scans, fault codes and test results from diagnostic equipment. This evidence needs to show diagnostic reasoning, not just routine servicing, to match the Certificate IV level of the qualification.
Is an RPL Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis the same as one from full-time training?
Yes, it's the identical AQF-registered AUR40226 qualification, issued by an ASQA-registered RTO whichever pathway you take. RPL leads to the same credential, not a different or reduced version of it.
What's the difference between Certificate III and Certificate IV in automotive qualifications for my career?
Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis is aimed at Motor Mechanic (General) work involving complex fault diagnosis using advanced diagnostic equipment, a step up from general servicing and repair. It's suited to mechanics already doing this higher-level diagnostic work who want it formally recognised.
