BSB80220 Graduate Diploma of Portfolio Management

Formal recognition for individuals with advanced knowledge and skills in strategic portfolio management who make high-level autonomous decisions across project, program and portfolio management functions.
Overview

Turn years of hands-on strategic portfolio management experience into the BSB80220 Graduate Diploma of Portfolio Management, a nationally recognised qualification for individuals who apply advanced knowledge and skills in a range of strategic portfolio management roles. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows your experience making high-level autonomous decisions across project, program and portfolio management functions to be formally assessed against this qualification rather than starting your learning over. Once your evidence is assessed and confirmed by our partner RTO, you hold the same AQF-recognised Graduate Diploma as anyone who completed the qualification through classroom-based study.

How It Works

Once your Student Agreement is signed and your initial payment is confirmed, your RPL journey begins — here's what to expect at each stage.

1
Collect Your Evidence
Using your personalised checklist, gather evidence that demonstrates your skills and experience. This may include employment records, certificates, photos, videos, or supervisor references. Your Navigator will guide you every step of the way.
2
Receive Your Enrolment & RPL Docs
We'll send your Enrolment Form and LLN Assessment to complete first. Following that, you'll receive your SelfAssessment Form and Third-Party Verification Form to work through carefully before moving to the next step.
3
Submit Your Completed Forms
Complete and sign all required forms, then return them along with your full evidence portfolio. Ensure every section is filled in, all signatures are included, and all supporting documents are attached before submitting.
4
Assessment and Competency Review
Your RTO Assessor will review and map your evidence against the required unit competencies. Where further clarification is needed, a competency conversation will be conducted to confirm your knowledge and skills.
5
Outcome Issued
Once assessed as competent across all required units, the RTO will formally issue your certificate or Statement of Attainment. Your real-world experience is now officially recognised as a nationally accredited qualification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Graduate Diploma of Portfolio Management through RPL without returning to full-time study?
Yes, if your work history shows you've been operating at portfolio management level, RPL allows an RTO to formally assess that experience against the qualification. It still involves a genuine assessment process — the RTO needs solid evidence, not just a resume, before recognising your skills at this level.
How much experience do I need for RPL at this level?
You need enough hands-on evidence at a senior, portfolio-wide level, such as project plans, budgets and financial reports you've managed, risk registers you've prepared, and stakeholder communication records. Since this is a Graduate Diploma, the evidence generally needs to reflect high-level, autonomous decision-making across a portfolio of projects and programs rather than single-project work.
Is an RPL Graduate Diploma the same qualification as one earned through a training provider?
Yes, it's the identical AQF-registered Graduate Diploma of Portfolio Management, issued by an ASQA-registered RTO either way. RPL doesn't create a watered-down version — it's a different pathway to the same nationally recognised credential.
What roles does this qualification support?
It's aimed at people already working as, or moving into, Portfolio Manager, Project Director or Project Management Section Leader roles, where you carry full accountability for a portfolio of projects and programs. Formalising that experience with the qualification can help when you're applying for these higher-level, decision-making positions.
