SIT50122 Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management

Formal recognition for senior operators who combine travel or tourism skills with managerial skills and sound industry knowledge to coordinate operations.
Overview

Turn years of hands-on travel and tourism management into the SIT50122 Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management, a nationally recognised qualification for highly skilled senior operators who combine a broad range of tourism or travel skills with managerial skills and sound knowledge of industry operations to coordinate travel or tourism operations. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows your experience managing sales, marketing or agency operations in the travel and tourism sector to be formally assessed against this qualification rather than starting your learning over. Once your evidence is assessed and confirmed by our partner RTO, you hold the same AQF-recognised Diploma as anyone who completed the qualification through classroom-based study, supporting a pathway to a departmental or small business manager role.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management through RPL if I've been running a travel business without formal qualifications?
Yes, RPL lets a partner RTO assess the management skills and experience you've built in the travel and tourism industry against the SIT50122 units instead of you doing a full diploma course from scratch. ATSR helps you gather the evidence, and the RTO handles the formal assessment and issues the diploma.
What evidence do I need to show for a travel and tourism management RPL application?
You need real evidence of management-level work in the industry, such as business or operational plans you've developed or contributed to, and financial records, budgets or reports showing you've managed finances within a travel or tourism operation. The evidence needs to reflect genuine management responsibility, not just general work experience in the sector.
Is a Diploma of Travel and Tourism Management from RPL the same as one from full-time study?
Yes, it's the same AQF-registered qualification issued by an ASQA-registered RTO, whichever pathway is used to earn it. RPL is a different way of gaining the identical credential, not a separate or lesser diploma.
What management roles can this diploma lead to in travel and tourism?
This qualification supports roles such as sales manager, marketing manager and travel agency manager, covering the running of sales, marketing and day-to-day operations for a travel or tourism business. It's aimed at people already working at, or moving into, management level in the industry.
