The Student Agreement is your service agreement with ATSR — it sets out your qualification pathway and ATSR's fees and terms, and you sign it before your RPL journey with us begins. Enrolling with your RTO is a separate step: once you're ready to submit your evidence, your RTO partner will have you complete their own Enrolment Form directly with them.

Common evidence includes your job description or employment contract, reference letters from employers or supervisors, payslips showing your job title and dates, tax returns or payment summaries, photos or videos of you performing your trade, your resume or CV, and any certificates from previous training. Some RTO forms — like your Self-Assessment and Third-Party Verification forms — need to be signed in front of a Justice of the Peace (JP) to verify authenticity. Your Account Manager will tell you exactly which forms need this before you submit.

Generally, yes — documents that aren't in English typically need a certified translation (for example, through NAATI) before they can be used as evidence. Your Account Manager can confirm exactly what's required for your specific documents and qualification.

Yes — a Third-Party Verification form lets a current or former supervisor, employer, or client confirm your work history and skills as part of your evidence portfolio.

Licence requirements are set and updated by each state or territory licensing authority (for example Fair Trading, the VBA, or the QBCC), and they can differ by trade, state, and licence class. Your RPL qualification is a genuine AQF qualification, but whether it satisfies a specific licence application is something only the relevant licensing authority can confirm — we'd always recommend checking your licence's current requirements directly with them.

Migration and visa requirements are set by the Department of Home Affairs and the relevant skills assessing authority for your occupation, and they're specific to your visa subclass and circumstances. ATSR isn't a migration agency, so for anything related to a visa or migration pathway, we always recommend speaking with a registered migration agent or immigration lawyer to confirm what's required before relying on any qualification.

For many trades and services, a specific AQF qualification is one of the requirements for business registration or holding a supervisory licence. RPL can help you work toward that qualification through a genuine assessment pathway — but you'll still need to confirm the exact registration or licensing requirements for your trade and state with the relevant authority.

Because it's a nationally recognised AQF qualification, it carries the same national recognition for employment, tenders, and professional credibility as one earned through traditional study.

The AQF is the national policy that sets out every qualification recognised in Australian education, from Certificates through to Doctoral degrees. It's what makes a Certificate III or Diploma mean the same thing whether it was issued in Perth or Cairns, and it's the framework every RPL qualification is assessed and issued against.

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) is the national regulator for Australia's vocational education and training (VET) sector. ASQA registers RTOs and monitors them against the Standards for Registered Training Organisations, which is what keeps a qualification — whether earned through classroom study or RPL — nationally recognised and trustworthy.

An RTO is an organisation registered with ASQA (or the relevant state regulator) to deliver nationally recognised training and assessment, and to issue AQF qualifications. ATSR is not an RTO — we work alongside a network of RTO partners who carry out the formal assessment and issue the qualification.

A full qualification (like a Certificate III or Diploma) is issued once you've been assessed as competent in every required unit. A Statement of Attainment lists the individual units you've completed or been assessed as competent in, where a full qualification hasn't been achieved. Your RTO will confirm which applies to your outcome.

Credit transfer instead recognises units you've already formally completed and been assessed on through previous study. Some pathways use a mix of both — your RTO will confirm which applies to you.

ATSR facilitates RPL pathways for vocational education and training (VET) qualifications — Certificates and Diplomas issued under the AQF by our RTO partners — not university degrees. If you're after a higher education pathway, a university's own recognition of prior learning process would be the right avenue.

Not exactly. RPL is the assessment process that leads to an AQF qualification. A Skills Assessment is a separate process, often required for migration purposes, that compares your qualifications and experience against a specific occupation's requirements, and is sometimes carried out by a different assessing authority altogether. If you need a Skills Assessment for migration, speak with a registered migration agent about which process applies to you.

Yes — because RPL results in the same AQF-recognised qualification as classroom-based study, employers recognise and treat it the same way. It carries the same qualification code and national recognition regardless of the assessment pathway used to earn it.
