How It Works

The Navigator's Path to Fitness Recognition

A step-by-step pathway to formal recognition of your coaching experience.

Collect Your Evidence

Using your personalised checklist, gather evidence that demonstrates your skills and experience. This may include employment records, certificates, photos, videos, or supervisor references. Your Navigator will guide you every step of the way.
01

Receive Your Enrolment & RPL Docs

We’ll send your Enrolment Form and LLN Assessment to complete first. Following that, you’ll receive your Self-Assessment Form and Third-Party Verification Form to work through carefully before moving to the next step.
02

Submit Your Completed Forms

Complete and sign all required forms, then return them along with your full evidence portfolio. Ensure every section is filled in, all signatures are included, and all supporting documents are attached before submitting.
03

Assessment and Competency Review

Your RTO Assessor will review and map your evidence against the required unit competencies. Where further clarification is needed, a competency conversation will be conducted to confirm your knowledge and skills.
04

Outcome Issued

Once assessed as competent across all required units, the RTO will formally issue your certificate or Statement of Attainment. Your real-world experience is now officially recognised as a nationally accredited qualification.

FAQ

The Answers You Need Before You Start Your Sport and Fitness Recognition
I've been personal training for years without a Certificate III or IV. Can RPL still recognise that?

Yes. If you can demonstrate real coaching and training experience through session plans, client references, and evidence of you delivering sessions, that experience can be assessed against SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness or SIS40221 Certificate IV in Fitness, depending on your scope of practice.

Is sport coaching assessed under the same qualification as gym or personal training?+

No. Sport-specific coaching experience — training plans, athlete development programs, and reports from club officials — is assessed against SIS30521 Certificate III in Sport Coaching, separate from the general fitness instructing pathway.

I coach at a community or junior level without formal club employment. Does that still count as evidence?+

Yes. What matters is being able to demonstrate your coaching competencies through real evidence, whether you coach for a formal club, a community program, or independently.

Will an RPL qualification let me get professional indemnity insurance as a trainer?+

In most cases, yes — industry bodies and insurers generally require the relevant nationally recognised qualification, such as Certificate IV in Fitness, though registration itself is managed by that industry body rather than by ATSR or the RTO.
