Turn hands-on remote pilot experience into the AVI30419 Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot), a nationally recognised qualification for individuals who operate remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), including aerial surveillance operations. If you already have relevant experience, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may be a pathway to consider. ATSR guides will help you understand the process and prepare evidence of your work experience. If you are looking for a certificate 3 in aviation, this qualification is formally known as the Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot).
A partner Registered Training Organisation (RTO) assesses your evidence against the qualification requirements. If you meet those requirements, the RTO issues the qualification. This qualification aligns with Remote Pilot Licensing requirements described in Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 101. Qualifying does not automatically mean you meet every requirement for a particular licence or commercial operation. ATSR supports you through the RPL process but does not assess or issue qualifications.

Yes, RPL lets you have your existing remote pilot experience formally assessed against the national competency standards instead of repeating training you've already covered. You'll still go through a genuine assessment process with the partner RTO to confirm your skills and knowledge meet the required level.
You'll need to show real records of your flying experience, such as flight logs, mission records or operation logs, along with evidence that you've operated aircraft or remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) within regulatory requirements. Risk assessments or operational documentation you've prepared can also help build your case.
Yes, it's the identical AQF-registered qualification issued by an ASQA-registered RTO — RPL is just a different assessment pathway to reach it. The certificate you end up with carries the same national recognition either way.
This certificate is built around the practical skills and regulatory knowledge involved in operating remotely piloted aircraft systems, which underpins commercial remote pilot work. The partner RTO assesses your evidence against these units to confirm your operational competence. However, just qualifying does not permit you to carry out every type of commercial flight. You may need to meet additional licensing, operational or regulatory requirements for the work you plan to do. Check the requirements that apply to your intended operations.
ATSR helps you understand the RPL process and prepare evidence of your remote pilot experience. This may include flight logs, mission records and operational documents. A partner RTO reviews your evidence, assesses your skills and decides whether you meet the requirements for the Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot).
Already have experience operating remotely piloted aircraft? Find out whether your work experience may be relevant to the Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot). ATSR can guide you through the RPL process and help you prepare the evidence needed for assessment.
