SHB30321 Certificate III in Nail Technology

Formal recognition for nail technicians who provide manicure and pedicare services, nail art, and acrylic and gel enhancements in salon settings.
Overview

Years of hands-on experience in nail care and enhancement work can be formally recognised through the SHB30321 Certificate III in Nail Technology. This nationally recognised qualification reflects the skills of nail technicians who deliver manicure and pedicare services, nail art, and acrylic and gel enhancements in salon and self-employed settings. Through Recognition of Prior Learning, ATSR guides you through turning your existing salon experience into a portfolio of evidence for formal assessment against this qualification. The outcome is the same AQF-registered Certificate III, issued by an ASQA-registered partner RTO, recognising the skills you already use every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Certificate III in Nail Technology through RPL if I've been doing nails for years without formal training?
Yes, years of hands-on nail work can be formally assessed against the Certificate III in Nail Technology rather than you starting training from the beginning. ATSR helps you pull together evidence of your everyday salon work, and a partner RTO assesses it against the national units before issuing the qualification.
What proof do I need for RPL as a nail technician?
You need real evidence from your actual salon work, such as photos of your everyday workplace and videos of you performing manicure, pedicure or nail enhancement services on a client. The assessor is looking for clear, on-site proof of the skills the qualification covers, not just photos of finished nail art.
Is an RPL Certificate III in Nail Technology recognised the same as a TAFE one?
Yes, it's the same nationally recognised AQF qualification either way, issued by an ASQA-registered RTO. RPL and full-time study are just two different pathways to the identical certificate.
Can I become a specialist nail technician or run my own salon with this qualification?
A Certificate III in Nail Technology qualifies you as a nail technician and can be a stepping stone toward specialist nail art, advanced enhancement work or supervising other staff. Many nail technicians use it as the foundation before moving into managing or owning a salon.
