How It Works

The Navigator's Path to Screen and Media Recognition

A step-by-step pathway to formal recognition of your production experience.

Collect Your Evidence

Using your personalised checklist, gather evidence that demonstrates your skills and experience. This may include employment records, certificates, photos, videos, or supervisor references. Your Navigator will guide you every step of the way.
01

Receive Your Enrolment & RPL Docs

We’ll send your Enrolment Form and LLN Assessment to complete first. Following that, you’ll receive your Self-Assessment Form and Third-Party Verification Form to work through carefully before moving to the next step.
02

Submit Your Completed Forms

Complete and sign all required forms, then return them along with your full evidence portfolio. Ensure every section is filled in, all signatures are included, and all supporting documents are attached before submitting.
03

Assessment and Competency Review

Your RTO Assessor will review and map your evidence against the required unit competencies. Where further clarification is needed, a competency conversation will be conducted to confirm your knowledge and skills.
04

Outcome Issued

Once assessed as competent across all required units, the RTO will formally issue your certificate or Statement of Attainment. Your real-world experience is now officially recognised as a nationally accredited qualification.

FAQ

The Answers You Need Before You Start Your Creative Arts Recognition
Is a screen and media qualification through RPL treated the same as one from a film school?

Yes. Once issued by an ASQA-registered RTO, a qualification gained through RPL carries the same AQF status and national recognition as one earned through a formal film or media course.

I work freelance rather than for a production company. Does that make it harder to provide evidence?+

No. What matters is being able to demonstrate the specific screen and media competencies through real projects — a portfolio, screen credits, and references from people you've worked with count regardless of whether you were employed, contracted, or self-directed.

I specialise in editing rather than directing or producing. Am I still eligible for the Diploma?+

Yes. CUA51020 Diploma of Screen and Media covers a range of specialisations, and your Navigator will map your specific evidence — such as edited sequences or post-production files — against the units relevant to your area of production.

What makes a strong portfolio for a screen and media RPL application?+

Finished work that clearly shows your specific contribution — showreels, production schedules, or crew call sheets alongside the final product — gives an assessor the clearest picture of the skills you applied on each project.
