SIT40422 Certificate IV in Hospitality

Formal recognition for skilled hospitality operators who use supervisory skills and sound industry knowledge to plan, monitor and evaluate the work of a team.
Overview

Turn years of hands-on hospitality supervision into the SIT40422 Certificate IV in Hospitality, a nationally recognised qualification for skilled operators who combine hospitality service, sales or operational skills with supervisory skills and sound knowledge of industry operations to plan, monitor and evaluate the work of a team. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows your experience running a front office, food and beverage area, concierge desk or gaming area to be formally assessed against this qualification rather than starting your learning over. Once your evidence is assessed and confirmed by our partner RTO, you hold the same AQF-recognised Certificate IV as anyone who completed the qualification through classroom-based study.

How It Works

Once your Student Agreement is signed and your initial payment is confirmed, your RPL journey begins — here's what to expect at each stage.

1
Collect Your Evidence
Using your personalised checklist, gather evidence that demonstrates your skills and experience. This may include employment records, certificates, photos, videos, or supervisor references. Your Navigator will guide you every step of the way.
2
Receive Your Enrolment & RPL Docs
We'll send your Enrolment Form and LLN Assessment to complete first. Following that, you'll receive your SelfAssessment Form and Third-Party Verification Form to work through carefully before moving to the next step.
3
Submit Your Completed Forms
Complete and sign all required forms, then return them along with your full evidence portfolio. Ensure every section is filled in, all signatures are included, and all supporting documents are attached before submitting.
4
Assessment and Competency Review
Your RTO Assessor will review and map your evidence against the required unit competencies. Where further clarification is needed, a competency conversation will be conducted to confirm your knowledge and skills.
5
Outcome Issued
Once assessed as competent across all required units, the RTO will formally issue your certificate or Statement of Attainment. Your real-world experience is now officially recognised as a nationally accredited qualification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Certificate IV in Hospitality through RPL if I already supervise staff at work?
Yes, RPL lets a partner RTO assess the supervisory hospitality skills and experience you already have against the SIT40422 units instead of you doing a new course from scratch. ATSR helps you build the evidence, and the RTO carries out the assessment and issues the qualification.
What evidence do I need for a Certificate IV in Hospitality RPL application?
You need real evidence of supervisory-level work, such as rosters or staff schedules you've prepared, records of staff training, coaching or performance monitoring you've conducted, and financial records or budgets you've managed. This evidence needs to show you've actually carried out supervisory duties, not just worked alongside a supervisor.
Is an RPL Certificate IV in Hospitality the same qualification as one earned through full-time study?
Yes, it's the same AQF-registered qualification, issued by an ASQA-registered RTO regardless of the pathway taken. RPL doesn't produce a separate or reduced version of the certificate.
What supervisor roles can a Certificate IV in Hospitality lead to?
This qualification supports roles such as front office supervisor, food and beverage supervisor, concierge and gaming supervisor across hotels, restaurants and other venues. It's aimed at hospitality workers ready to move from frontline service into supervising a team.
