FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting

Formal recognition for accounting job roles including tax agents, accounts payable and receivable officers, and payroll service providers who apply solutions to complex problems and provide guidance to others.
Overview

Turn years of hands-on accounting experience into the FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting, a nationally recognised qualification reflecting accounting job roles in financial services and other industries, including tax agents, accounts payable and accounts receivable officers and payroll service providers. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows your experience applying solutions to complex accounting problems and analysing information from a variety of sources to be formally assessed against this qualification rather than starting your learning over. Once your evidence is assessed and confirmed by our partner RTO, you hold the same AQF-recognised Diploma as anyone who completed the qualification through classroom-based study. This qualification includes units that comprise an approved Tax Practitioner Board (TPB) course in Australian taxation and commercial law.

Assistant Accountant
Performs fixed asset accounting, cash management, bank reconciliations and taxation work including FBT, BAS and annual company tax returns.
Finance Sector Supervisor

How It Works

Once your Student Agreement is signed and your initial payment is confirmed, your RPL journey begins — here's what to expect at each stage.

1
Collect Your Evidence
Using your personalised checklist, gather evidence that demonstrates your skills and experience. This may include employment records, certificates, photos, videos, or supervisor references. Your Navigator will guide you every step of the way.
2
Receive Your Enrolment & RPL Docs
We'll send your Enrolment Form and LLN Assessment to complete first. Following that, you'll receive your SelfAssessment Form and Third-Party Verification Form to work through carefully before moving to the next step.
3
Submit Your Completed Forms
Complete and sign all required forms, then return them along with your full evidence portfolio. Ensure every section is filled in, all signatures are included, and all supporting documents are attached before submitting.
4
Assessment and Competency Review
Your RTO Assessor will review and map your evidence against the required unit competencies. Where further clarification is needed, a competency conversation will be conducted to confirm your knowledge and skills.
5
Outcome Issued
Once assessed as competent across all required units, the RTO will formally issue your certificate or Statement of Attainment. Your real-world experience is now officially recognised as a nationally accredited qualification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Diploma of Accounting through RPL instead of studying full-time?
Yes, if you've been doing accounting work already, RPL lets an RTO assess your real experience against the qualification's requirements rather than putting you through a full course from the start. It's still a formal assessment — you need solid evidence that shows your skills match what the Diploma covers.
What kind of proof do I need for RPL as an accountant?
You'll need documents like financial reports, reconciliations or budgets you've prepared, BAS or instalment activity statements you've lodged, and payroll or accounts records you've managed. The stronger and more varied this evidence, the easier it is for the assessor to confirm your skills against each unit in the Diploma.
Is an RPL Diploma of Accounting the same as one from a college?
Yes, it's the same AQF-registered Diploma of Accounting, issued by an ASQA-registered RTO regardless of the pathway. RPL doesn't change what's printed on the qualification — it's simply a different way of proving you meet the standard.
What roles can this Diploma lead to?
This qualification supports roles like Assistant Accountant, where you handle fixed asset accounting, cash management, bank reconciliations and tax work including FBT and BAS, or Finance Sector Supervisor roles overseeing financial operations. It's a solid step up if you're already working in accounts and want your experience formally recognised at Diploma level.
