SIT31121 Certificate III in Asian Cookery

Formal recognition for cooks who use well-developed cookery skills and sound kitchen knowledge to prepare Asian food and menu items.
Overview

Turn years of hands-on Asian kitchen work into the SIT31121 Certificate III in Asian Cookery, a nationally recognised qualification for cooks who prepare a wide range of Asian dishes using well-developed cookery skills and sound knowledge of kitchen operations. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows your experience preparing Asian food in restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs and cafes to be formally assessed against this qualification rather than starting your learning over. Once your evidence is assessed and confirmed by our partner RTO, you hold the same AQF-recognised Certificate III as anyone who completed the qualification through classroom-based study.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a Certificate III in Asian Cookery through RPL if I've worked in Asian kitchens for years without formal qualifications?
Yes, RPL lets a partner RTO assess your existing Asian cookery skills and kitchen experience against the SIT31121 units instead of you starting a full course from scratch. ATSR helps you put your evidence together, and the RTO carries out the assessment and issues the qualification.
What proof do I need of my Asian cookery skills for an RPL application?
You need real evidence of dishes you've actually prepared, such as photos or records showing basic methods of Asian cookery, appetisers and snacks, and stocks, soups, sauces, dips or accompaniments. The evidence should reflect the range of Asian cookery techniques you use in practice.
Is a Certificate III in Asian Cookery earned through RPL the same as one from a full-time course?
Yes, it's the identical AQF-registered qualification, issued by an ASQA-registered RTO no matter which pathway you take. RPL recognises the skills you already have rather than creating a different version of the certificate.
Does this qualification cover specific Asian cuisines, or is it general?
SIT31121 qualifies you as an Asian Food Cook, preparing, seasoning and cooking food across specialty Asian dining and catering settings rather than being locked to one cuisine. The specific dishes and techniques you're assessed on come from the real cooking work and evidence you provide.
